Owwwwwwwwwww.

I've had enough summers to know enough to say you can't really prevent sunburn. You can slather on sunscreen until it comes out your ears, but after a certain point your skin is saturated to the point of sliminess. It can only hold so much lotion. And this is probably your sole (or sol) protection, because, let's face it, you are not going to wear a long-sleeved shirt.
Not that I mind sunscreen. On the contrary, I like it. It smells nice. Tanning can encourage skin disease, and sunburn...

Sunburn.

Well.

I am currently burnt on the top of my right foot, but not my left. Though my shins, calves, and thighs are okay, somehow my knees are sunburned, along with my nose and the back of my neck. My forearms are toast and I have a white ring from my watch.

Least Pleasant Places to be Sunburned

-Lip. Coming from a wind player, the lip wins hands down as the most horribly uncomfortable place to get sunburned. The outside gets swollen and thick. The inside takes on a weird texture like fingertips do after an hour-long bath. It's just gross.

-Scalp. Somehow the skin under the part in my hair managed to get schorched. Ow. Owww.

-Top of Foot. Again, oww. Even really soft socks feel like they're lined with sandpaper. For those of you who are really really unfairly lucky and don't burn, just imagine putting a tube of sandpaper on your foot.

Owwwwwwww.

  1. In a few years you will not burn but turn brown. But that is a few years of exposure to the outdoors. . . Wait til you come to the country and work in the garden!
