(Please excuse the following silliness.)
Once upon a time, in a little house on the prairie, the three Windsor brothers lived with their wives. They were named Oedipus Windsor, Ethan Frome Windsor, and Hamlet Windsor. The merry wives of Windsor were named Medea, Anna Karenina, and Ligeia. The family was poor. They had an animal farm full of mice and men and the red pony, and the house on Mango Street, but they lived simply.
Then they became extremely rich.
The first thing they did was the redecoration of their home. However, this led to disagreements. Medea liked the pearl wallpaper in violet, but Ligeia preferred the black pearl. Anna wanted the secret garden to be full of the black tulip, but Hamlet liked the scarlet pimpernel.
Then they went into the city, full of great expectations - even for little women, like the Windsors. They tried to act with sense and sensibility, but they behaved as if their treasure island was just a midsummer night's dream. Their night out became a comedy of errors and they, acting like a ship of fools, nearly discovered the meaning of crime and punishment.
They felt the call of the wild and decided they needed a vacation. They went over the bridges of Madison County and through the looking glass, learned how to kill a mockingbird and the raven, and then built the time machine! They created a wrinkle in time, saw a view from Saturday, and traveled to 1984 and 2001.
The oldest brother, Oedipus, had been both the prince and the pauper - but he was now the prince.
(And, having run out of ideas and lacking a proper way to end this story/post, Emma wishes only to point out to Beatrix that this began with her idea. Thank you.)
